WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR GP GETS IT WRONG?

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

WILL MY GP TREAT ME DIFFERENTLY IF I MAKE A CLAIM?

No, and they absolutely shouldn’t. All claims against GPs are handled by NHS Resolution, not your local surgery. Once we notify your GP, they pass everything to NHS Resolution.

Your GP must continue to provide you with the same standard of care—there are no exceptions. If they treat you differently because of your claim, that’s serious misconduct and could result in disciplinary action against them. You have every right to pursue justice without fear of consequences.

CAN I CLAIM AGAINST OTHER STAFF AT THE PRACTICE, LIKE NURSES OR SPECIALISTS?

Yes, you can. The key is understanding who’s legally responsible, and that’s where we come in. Sometimes nurses, phlebotomists, or podiatrists work directly for the GP surgery. Other times, they’re employed by a local hospital Trust and just use the surgery as a base.

We’ll work out who’s responsible and who needs to be held accountable – you don’t need to worry about the legal details.

WHAT IF I WAS TREATED BY A LOCUM GP?

You can still bring a claim. We’d either pursue the locum directly or, if they work for a hospital Trust, we’d claim against that Trust. Either way, you have the same rights.

We’ll identify the right party to hold responsible and handle everything from there.

WHAT KINDS OF MISTAKES CAN I CLAIM FOR?

GP errors take many forms, and we’ve helped people in all sorts of situations. Common claims include missed or incorrect diagnoses that delayed proper treatment, failures to refer you for specialist care or urgent investigations when warning signs were clear, prescription errors that caused harm or made conditions worse, failures to send you to urgent care when you needed it, and inadequate testing or follow-up that left serious conditions undetected.

If you suspect something went wrong with your care, it’s worth talking to us. We’ll listen to what happened and give you honest advice about whether you have a case.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE A CASE?

If you’ve suffered harm because your GP didn’t provide the standard of care you deserved, you may have a claim. It’s not about pointing fingers at every mistake—we all know medicine isn’t perfect. But when an error causes real harm that could have been avoided, you deserve to be heard. Get in touch and we’ll talk through what happened.

There’s no obligation, no pressure—just honest advice about your options.
