Bradley, 36, lives with his partner Joanne, 37, and their four-year-old son in Keynsham, Bristol. Both Bradley and Joanne suffer from asthma, and Bradley also has fibromyalgia, arthritis and mild cerebral palsy. Their health conditions make it especially important to live in a safe, well-maintained home.

THE PROBLEM

The family moved into a two-bedroom mid-terrace property owned by Bromford Housing, a housing association.

Shortly after moving in, they discovered a severe mould issue, with damp spreading from the floor to halfway up the living room wall.

Despite reporting the issue multiple times over nearly three years, Bromford Housing failed to take proper action.

The damp and mould had a significant impact on Bradley and Joanne’s health. Constant coughs and colds made their asthma worse, and Bradley found himself repeatedly asking for help.

“It was almost like they were expecting me to get down on my hands and knees to clean it off with bleach,” he said. “The house wasn’t habitable.”

SEEKING SUPPORT

Frustrated by the lack of action, Bradley escalated the issue by filing multiple complaints to Bromford Housing. When the housing association still failed to remedy the issue, he warned that he would seek legal help.

Bradley reached out to several law firms but they weren’t interested in taking on the case. That’s when he found Liberay Legal.

HOW LIBERAY HELPED

Liberay took immediate action. After reviewing the details and seeing photos of the mould, we stepped in to advocate on the family’s behalf.

“As soon as they took over, I thought, ‘Wow. What a massive weight off my shoulders,’” said Bradley.

Rachel, the case handler, kept in regular contact, ensuring that Bradley and Joanne were always informed about progress.

“The communication was amazing. If I asked her to do something, she would do it – nothing was too much trouble.”

THE OUTCOME

Within four to six months of contacting Liberay, £7,800 worth of repairs were carried out on the property.

The family also received compensation, which helped them move into a new home. “It wasn’t a huge amount but it was enough to pay our first month’s rent and cover some removal costs,” Bradley explained.

Today, Bradley and his family live in a better home with a new housing association, free from the stress and health risks of their previous living conditions.

THE FINAL WORD

Liberay made a massive, massive difference – I can’t fault them. They not only got the work done, but they also helped us get compensation that allowed us to move. Without Liberay, we would probably still be in that house. We’ll be forever grateful to them for what they have done.
